All COA transportation programs are for Norwell residents, age 60 and older. Transportation is also available for those physically/mentally impaired or disabled per the Americans with Disabilities Act regardless of age, (for the COA Vehicle Only!). Those individuals with special circumstances, i.e. portable oxygen, wheelchair use, or other assistive devices will be accommodated per COA guidelines/policies. We make every effort to transport residents via one of the following programs.
COA Van Transport
This is a demand response system, offered Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., for medical appointments, which are a priority. COA transports to communities within a 20-mile radius of Norwell including North to Braintree/ Crown Colony/Quincy, South to Duxbury, West to Whitman and the East side of Brockton, and East to Scituate.
Transportation services are also available for daily programs at the Senior Center and local shopping.

Volunteer Transport
Volunteer drivers are available to provide transportation for medical appointments. While most will drive locally, some will drive Boston. Volunteer drivers typically stay with client and only ask for parking fees to be reimbursed by client. Volunteer drivers may be utilized if the COA van is there is a conflict with the COA van.
Volunteer drivers are also available to assist with shopping and errands.
Prescription Pick-up
Please try to make arrangements with a family member or friend to assist you with filling a prescription. If you are unable to do so, please contact the COA and we’ll do our best to assist you.
To facilitate the prescription process, we ask that the physician call in a prescription to the pharmacy. All prescriptions must be pre-paid or exact payment must be provided to the driver prior pick up. For more information, please call the COA office at 781-659-7878.
MAP 5 (Medical Access Program)
The Medical Access Program (MAP5) works under a Federal grant, to provide medical transportation usually in and out of Boston and for wheelchair situations that the COA van cannot handle. This is a regional consortium, under the Older Americans Act and South Shore Elder Services. Serving Cohasset, Hingham, Hull, Scituate and Norwell as the lead agency.

Requesting Transportation
To request transportation for a medical appointment, shopping or for a program, call the COA office at 781-659-7878. To assist with planning daily transportation, the follwoing guidelines apply;
· Requests for medical transportation must be made 48 hours in advance.
· Requests for program transportation must be made 24 hours in advance.
· We regret that same-day transportation requests cannot be accepted.
When scheduling an appointment you will need to provide the following information:
· Your name, address and telephone number
· Appointment date, time and anticipated duration
· Doctor’s name, address and telephone number
Medical appointments and prescription runs are a priority. Shopping and program transportation are set for specific days. Personal errands, such as hairdresser appointments, banking, can usually handled by COA volunteer drivers.
