MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS
WATER MAINS AND APPURTENANCES
- RESILIENT SEATED WEDGE GATE VALVES
Valves shall be iron body, bi-directional, resilient type, designed for 200psi working pressure and conform to the latest revision of AWWA C-509-87.
Valves shall have O-ring seals; non-rising stem and 2” operating nut. Valves shall open RIGHT.
Valves shall have mechanical joint end, unless otherwise noted.
Valves interiors and exteriors shall be epoxy coated in accordance with AWWA Specification C-550.
Valves shall be as manufactured by Mueller.
Valve Boxes shall be cast iron, tar coated, telescoping heavy pattern type, consisting of flanged bottom, flanged top and cover with the word “WATER” cast in the cover.
Hydrants shall be of break flange construction with a 6” mechanical joint inlet connection, two 2” fire hose connections and one 4” steamer connection and a standpipe with a 6” diameter minimum.
Hydrants shall have a mechanical joint boot, 5 1/2’ bury, a 5/ 1/4” valve opening and conform to the latest revision of AWWA Specification C-502-85. Hydrant opening direction shall be clearly indicated by an arrow. Hydrants shall open LEFT.
Hydrant branches are to be of 6” D.I.
Hydrants are to be painted yellow as per Norwell Water Department Specification.
Hydrants shall be as manufactured by Mueller – Super Centurion Model No. A-423.
4. FITTINGS
4.1 Fittings shall be full flow, compact size conforming to the latest revision of AWWA Specification C-153 and have a working pressure rating of 200psi.
4.2 Unless otherwise approved, all fittings shall have mechanical joint ends with appropriate glands, gaskets, nuts, bolts and accessories.
- Restrained joints for mechanical joint fitting shall be megalug as manufactured by Ebba Iron Company.
- Anchor tees are required for all hydrant assemblies.
- Appropriate thrust blocking is required at all hydrants, fittings and bends.
All ductile iron pipe shall be designed in accordance with ANI A21.50 and manufactured in accordance with ANI A21.51.
All ductile iron pipe up to 12” in diameter shall be of Class 52 thickness.
All ductile iron pipe shall be cement lined in accordance with ANI A21.4.
All pipe joints shall be of the bell and spigot type.
Metallic indicator tape with “CAUTION WATER MAIN BURIED BELOW” shall be placed in trench 1’ from final grade.
The corporation stop shall be of all bronze construction. The inlet thread shall be of C.C. type. Outlet connections shall be compression suitable for use with C.T.S. P.E. tubing.
For purposes of standardization, corporation stop shall be Model F-1000CC as manufactured by the Ford Meter Box Company.
Curb stops shall be of all bronze construction with a drain and inlet and outlet compression connection suitable for use with P.E. tubing. Curb stops shall open LEFT.
For purposes of standardization, the curb stop shall be Model No. 244-444SW as manufactured by the Ford Meter Box Company.
The curb box shall be cast iron tar coated telescoping “Buffalo” type, consisting of a bottom, top and cover secured by a pentagon nut.
10.1 Service connections shall be all brass with a minimum 1” CC outlet. 1”
connections shall be direct tap, 1 1/2”-2” connections will require saddles.
- For the purposes of standardization, the saddle shall be Model 202BS-1110X4CC as manufactured by the Ford Meter Box Company.
- All polyethylene tubing shall be type 3408 with a working pressure of 200psi. The tubing shall be minimum 1” copper tube size and fitted with solid stainless steel inserts at all compression connections.
SERVICE CONNECTIONS
All 1” service connections shall consist of a corporation stop, curb stop, curb box, P.E. tubing, stainless steel inserts and metallic indicator tape. All 1 1/2”-2” service connections will require a saddle in addition to the above.
